Nerimbera women stand in the forefront of the development of soccer in our region having founded the first women’s team.
In 1974/1975 season local school girls Kaylene Webb, Leonie Wovatt, Pam Reynolds and Jenny Fraser asked Doug McQuire to show them how to play soccer. He started training them on Pilbeam Park along with other girls who showed interest. The number of players grew and it was not long before some of the Nerimbera Girls asked the All Blacks Sports Club to form a team with a view to play games. Scratch games were played between these two teams and these games were the catalyst of women’s soccer in Rockhampton. Interest spread throughout the city as a result of these games, with Bluebirds United and Rocky Reds forming teams. The growth and interest expanded to such a point that The Rockhampton Women’s Soccer Association was formed with the president Mr John Guinane. Official fixtures began in 1975.
Early games were held at Pilbeam Park with the support and encouragement of Nerimbera Soccer Club. Nerimbera played it’s first match against Rocky Reds under the guidance Peter Reynolds.
Outstanding contributions by women continue to sculpt the club and help it to survive and thrive. Today, we have 2 women's teams - a FQPL women’s team and a Senior women’s community team playing in the Football Queensland Central Coast competitions as well as a Girls United team in the social competition.
